Co-Founder, Director and Photographer

James is passionate about wildlife and conservation. With extensive experience in professional guiding and travels, he captures the efforts of organizations in an intimate and honest way. Using his profound knowledge of the African bush, he aids Connect in producing content that allows our audience to connect to the places, people and wildlife featured in our films and in his photographs.

Sam Suter

Co-Founder, Director and Producer

Sam is a key figure in Connect’s work. With a Marketing degree, she is passionate about human-empowerment and wildlife conservation. Her ability to connect with people and share their experiences is crucial. She believes film can shed light on issues and create change by connecting people globally. Sam enjoys the creative side of filmmaking and directing content for various clients.

Oli Caldow

Co-Founder and Director of Photography 

Oli has over 15 years of experience in the film industry. With a commercial background, he has worked on high-end productions worldwide. His unique visual style, capturing moments in a cinematic way, adds value to the films produced. With years of experience in documentary filmmaking, he documents people in Africa, aiming to tell their stories in an honest way that sheds light on their experiences and daily life. His passion and experience are invaluable to the Connect team.

Sacha Specker

Director and Photographer

Sacha Specker is a talented director and photographer who is passionate about the natural world and our work. He is adaptable, loves adventure, and works well within our team. Sacha fills various roles, including assisting with film production and managing equipment. He is adaptable and a people’s person, making him valuable in isolated wilderness areas. Sacha studied Nature Conservation and has a deep love for ocean and marine conservation. He is known for riding waves and photographing water sculptures, making him a valuable asset to our team.

Shaun is a skilled narrative storyteller with a background in documentary and commercial films. With a keen eye for emotion and clear messaging, he guides our post-production processes. With a 10-year career in the industry, he has developed valuable skills and is dedicated to his craft and passion for conservation, making him an invaluable asset to our Connect team. He believes that we can learn something valuable from every person we meet and this has kept him curious and continuously learning in all aspects of his career.

Reinhardt Geyser

Senior Editor

Reinhardt is a post-production editor and technical expert with a unique blend of film and music production experience. He is passionate about music and sound design, adding layers to storytelling to evoke emotion. Reinhardt’s lifelong connection to nature fuels his commitment to conservation and biodiversity protection. He believes in teamwork and the power of celebrating the beauty of our planet. His storytelling craft and work ethic are driven by his collective purpose to celebrate the dedication of those working tirelessly to preserve it.

Gerda Ellis

Production & Social Media Coordinator

Gerda is the Production & Social Media Coordinator, managing essential pre-production for films and the company’s social media presence. A true “jack of all trades,” she handles everything from pitch decks to office logistics. Driven by a lifelong passion for nature and wildlife, Gerda’s values align with Black Bean’s mission. Known for her straightforward face and kindness, she’s always ready to bring a smile to those around her. A proud advocate for hyenas, Gerda believes they’ve been misunderstood for far too long, and it’s time for a rebrand!
